Nikolaevtsev, son of a blacksmith, studied at the art school of the Moscow Sytin Publishing Company. From 1915 to 1921 het studied at the first Model Printing House under S. V. Gerasimov Chernyshev, Rodionov and others. His graphic studies started in 1927 in the studio of I. Nivinskii. From 1922 to 1926 he joined the art group Makovets. From 1923 to 1937 he taught at several art schools in Moscow.
