Kochergin studied from 1908 to 1918at the Stroganov School of Industrial Art in Moscow. In the summer of 1918 he volunteered for the Red Army and was send to the High Military School of Camouflage to train agitators. Here he designed his first posters. In 1919 he was send to Kharkov to work as an agitator. Later in in 1919 he returned to Moscow to work as chief designer of Agitprop posters. From 1920 to 1930 he worked in Leningrad as a designer for the Leningrad Puppet Theatre. Between 1930 and 1940 he mainly worked as a painter. From 1942 to 1944 Kochergin and his family was evacuated to Frunze before returning to Leningrad. In 1965 he became an Honoured Artists of the RSFSR. |
