Elisabeth Ivanovsky was the daughter of a Professor of Law, who taught first at the University of Kiev and later in Kishinev, where she was born in 1910. She studied at the art school in Kishinev from 1923 - 1929, and never in Bucharest, as is sometimes stated. In 1930 she gained the first price in graphic art in Bucharest. In October 1932 she emigrated to Belgium. From 1932 until 1935 she studied under J. Minne at the I.S.A.D. ("La Cambre") in Brussels. She was an eminent illustrator of children’s books and illustrated more than 70 books for Desclée De Brouwer editors. The total she illustrated more than 250 titles in more than 10 languages. |
