Galadzhev studied at the faculty of painting and graphic of the Moscow Stroganov Institute. In 1915 he started working at the Bolshoi Theatre and became in 1919an actor of the Moscow experimental heroic theatre Safonova. After three years this theatre fell apart and Galadzhev began to work as an artist again. He worked as a scenographer and cartoonist and started studying at the Moscow State School of cinematography. After graduating in 1925 he mainly worked as a movie director.
