Bashkov, the son of a deported Cossack, studied at the Irkutsk Art school and at the Leningrad Academy of Art where he 1965 graduated under Aleksei Pakhomov. He workes as an illustrated and taught both at the Repin Institute and the Stieglitz Institute of Industrial Art in Leningrad.
