Zotov studiied from 1922 to 1925 at the Artschool of the State Publisher (Gosizdat)under S. Gerasimov and I. Pavlov. He started working as an illustrator for various magazine and for the publisher of Children's book Molodaia gvardiia. Between 1930 and 1940 he mainly worked as a designer of propganda posters. After the war Zortov worked as a designer for the Moscow Soiuzmultfilm (animation films)
