In 1921 Zelma moved to Moscow only with his old Kodak camera. He started working as a photographer for the journal Theatre. In the 1930s he worked with a Leica camera for the journal Sovetskoe foto, SSSR na stroike, a.o. During the Second World War he worked in Stalingrad as a war photographer.
