Born Chernovtsy, 1933

Zapolyanskii (born Gavriil Shakher) and his family were exiled to Siberia in 1941. In 1989 the family was rehabilitated. Zapolianskii studied at the philology faculty of the Tomsk University. He started working as a writer. His literary works include novels and theatre plays, that never were published. In 1958, he started painting, gouache being the technique he prefers. He lives and works in Moscow.
