Wenger, son of a local artist of Elisavetgrad, went in 1903 to the USA where he designed costumes and jewelry for his uncle's store in Newark. He studied art at the Cooper Union and the national Academy of Art. He became interested in stage scenery and theatre and developed a gauze like drop: scrim. He lived and worked in New York.
