Alexander Vesnin and his two elder brother grew up on their mother's country estate in Iurevets-Povolzhkii where reading and music were a family tradition. Vesnin studied from 1901 to 1912 at the St. Petersburg Institute of Civil Engineers, a time interrupted for some years by working with architects and participating in architectural composition with a.o. K. Yuon, I. Dudin and V. Tatlin. Together with his brothers, he became a leader of Soviet constructivist architecture.
