Funny pictures

Moscow: TsK VLKSM Molodaya gvardiya, 1956 - to date

Funny pictures is a Soviet and Russian comic monthly for children. It was published from September 24, 1956 until 1991 as organ of the Central Committee of the Komsomol. The magazine includes comics, poems, riddles, games and jokes. The issues counted, with some exceptions, 16 pages. Sometimes the centrefold could be cut out to make a little book (Knizhki malyshki). Often these pages are missing and the number of pages is reduced to 12. The magazine was published in an oblong (landscape) format up until 1965, after it varied and was sometimes used for the cover only. The idea for this magazine and its name belonged to Ivan Semenov (1908-1982) a cartoonist of the magazine 'Crocodile'. He became the first editor. In 1977 Viktor Pivovarov created a series of letter-men that became the new logo of Funny pictures in 1979. In 1993 the magazine was registered by the Russian federation.
