Died Moscow, 23 August 1926

Vasnetsov studied 1858-1867 at the Seminary of Viatka; 1867-1868 he studied at the School for the Promotion of the Arts in St. Petersburg and 1868-1874 at the Imperial Academy. In 1876-1877 he travelled to Paris. In 1878 he started working for Savva Mamontov for whom he did 1881-1882 the designs for the costumes of the opera Snegurochka (Snowmaiden). In 1885-1896 he did mural paintings in the St. Vladimir cathedral in Kiev. In 1900-1926 he designed the cycle: "The poem of the 7 fairy tales".
