Tarkhoff trained in painting during his travels in the Caucasus and the Crimea where he met with Konstantin Korvine who would have a lasting impression on his painting. In 1898 he failed the entrance examination for the Moscow school of painting, Sculpture and Architecture and went to paris where he attended for some time the Academy Julian. he is best known for his impressionist landscapes and his portrayals of paris, his house and family.
