Tagirov, son of a teacher of drawing, calligraphy and a reformer of Tartar writing, moved in 1921 to Ekaterinburg where he worked in the art studio of the ProletKult. In 1922 he entered the sculpture department of the Ural Art and Industry College. From 1930 to 1933 he taught theory and practice of type at the Moscow Polygraphic Institute. He is best known for his wide range of designs for new typographic fonts and the technology of their production. |
