Albert Dasnoy (1901-1992) was a Belgian painter and essayist, who worked as a teacher in art history at the Queen Elisabeth College of Music in Brussels. Between 1940 and 1976 he published a series of monographs on Belgian artists and Belgian art history. He also published a collection of stories of which Le sire de l ‘Enclu is an example. For this story about the return to his stately home by a baron who fought in the war, Staritsky designed a series of etchings, mainly in black, to express the horrors of war and the traumatic post-war experiences of the main character of the tale. The wrappers of the book, original a handmade Auvergne paper by the Richard de Bas mills, are reproduced for the cover of this publication.
