Konstantin Somov was the son of the senior curator at the Hermitage He studied 1888-1897 at the Academy in St. Petersburg under V. Vereshchagin and P. Tchistakov. In 1894 he studied in Repin's studio and 1897-1899 in the studio of F. Colarossi in Parijs. 1890, 1894, 1897, 1901, 1905 he travelled in Western Europe. He was one of the founders of Mir Iskusstva. In 1923 he went to the USA and in 1925 settled in Paris.
