Sokolov studied 1909-1911 at the studio of Anatolii Bolshakov. In 1919 he worked with S Kolesnikov for the Proletkult. In 1920 heb became an assitant to V. Falileev who introduced him to the technique of coloured linocuts. Sokolov specialized in lino cut, water colour and gouache.
