Boris Smirnov, a.k.a. Boris Smirnov-Rusetskii entered 1926 the Moscow Vkhutemas where he studied graphic arts under I. Nivinskii, V. Favorskii and N. Kupreianov. In that year he met also Nicholas Roerich who would have a strong influence on his art. He also began to use the Pseudonym Smirmov-Rusetskii. Being the son of an Imperial officer he was paurged, arrested and send the Akmola region, after his release in 1954. In 1986 he became chairman of the Moscow Roerich Society.
