Shteinberg did not have a formal artistic education. To earn maney ghe worked a.o. as a watchman, digger and fisherman in Tarusa. Here he held his first exhibition in 1966. In the 1970s he joined the Sretensky Boulevard group of non conformist painters. In 1988 he went to France for a personal exhibition and had a studio in Paris. He worked and lived in Paris and Tarusa.
