Shishmareva studied archeology at the Petersburg University and studied art at the  private studios of N. Radlov, M. Dobujinsky a.o. In 1926 she started working at the Deygiz publishing hous in Leningrad under V. Lebedev and from 1932 to 1934 at the Lenfilm studios. She married the artist V.A. Vlason (1905-1979) and was mother of the artist Boris Vlasov (1936-1981
