Shchekatikhina studied at the Leningrad School of Drawing under I. Bilibin and N. Roerich. From 1918 to 1923 she worked as a artists at the State Porcelain Factory in Petrograd. In 1920, a widow, she went to visit Bilibin in Egypt and moved with the Bilibin family to Paris in 1925. In the years between 1925 and 1929 she worked mainly as an illustrator. In 1936 she returned to Leningrad and resumed working at the State Porcelain Factory.
