In 1906 the family rejoined Joshua, who had fled Siberia, in Brooklyn in New York. Ben Shahn was trained as a lithographer in New York, which is apparent is his later graphic design of books often combining calligraphy, images and songs. In 1921 he attended arts classes at the new York City College and after at the national Academy of design. After the Second World War Shahn became known for his realist style used to contribute to social dialogue. |
