Died Moscow, 19 January 1968

Serov graduated in 1931 from the Leningrad Academy of Art. From 1933 to 1942 he taught at the Academy and became head of the Leningrad Union of Soviet Artists (1941-1948). As a Socialist-Realism painter and an illustrator heroic and historicl subject were his favorites. In 1958 he became a member of the Suprme Soviet of the RSFSR.
