Tatyana Selvinskaya, daughter of the famous poet Ilia Selvinskii, took her first art lessons with Robert Falk and Aleksandr Tyshler. In 1953 she graduated from the Moscow Surikov Art Institute. She worked from 1996 to 1978 as head of the theatre department of the Moscow Art Theatre.
