In Vienna in 1986 Das Fröhliche Wohnzimmer [The Cheerful Living Room], was established as a publishing house by Ilse Kilic and Fritz Widhalm, who saw themselves as part of a cultural network. Accordingly, joint projects, mutual support, and friendly cooperation with other (small) publishers became hugely important. From the start the focus of its publications was on experimental literature as well as on visual and concrete poetry. As early as 1990, the visual poetry of Nikonova and Segay was published to demonstrate the publisher’s intention to explore experimental literature throughout the world. As part of their endeavour Kilic and Widhalm published the magazine Das Wohnzimmer. In total there were 46 issues containing work by the couple.
