Shortly after he had started studying engeneering, Segal left Russia in 1918 for Berlin where he met with the Russian exile avnt-garde. In painting he was a complete autodicact. In 1925 he went to France and settled in Paris. From 1926 to 1933 he lived and worked as a free artist in Toulon. In 1933 he returned to Paris. Around 1977 the collector Bruno Bassano founded the Segal museum in Aups (south of France) |
