Сатирикон
Satiricon
St. Petersburg: Kornfeld, 1908-1914
The weekly magazine Satiricon was published in
St. Petersburg by M.G. Kornfeld (1884-1973). The magazine was the
successor of the magazine Dragonfly (1901-1908). Until the end of
1908, some issues of both journals came out with the same content and
illustrations. The editor
of the first eight issues was: Aleksei Radakov (1877-1942). From number
nine onwards the editor was Arkadii Averchenko (1881-1925). It was one
of the most popular satirical magazines of its time with a groep of very
talented writers and artists as collaborators. The magazine was never
banned because of its policy not to raise to a bold criticism of the
state or the emperor. Its critical arrows were aimed at the everyday
events and common human vices. Nevertheless often illustrations were
captioned by the initials of the artist or a pseudonym. At the end of 1913 most of the writers
and artists left Satiricon and started in 1914 a new journal New
Satiricon. After his emigration to France, the publisher M.G.Kornfeld
founded in 1931 again a magazine
Satiricon in
Paris.
