Sarkisyan studied at the art studio of the All-Union council of Trade Unions. During the Second World War he served in the Red Army. In 1951 he graduated from the Moscow Institute of Cinematography and started working for the Soyuzmultfilm as a designer and director. He was a teacher of animation film. He worked also as a graphic artist and illustrator of children’s books
