Sarian studied from 1889 to 1895 at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. He trained under V. Serov.and K. Korovich in 1903 and 1904. In the years before the First World War he travelled extensivly through Armenia, Turky, Egypt, Persia and other countries of the Middle East. In 1915 he moved to Tiflis and in 1921 to Erevan.
