Soviet
Photography was a monthly published as a forum for photojournalism.
The first issue was published in April 1926 with Maikhail Koltsov as
editior.
In 1929 and 1930, the magazine was published twice a month. In 1931
it was acquired by the Ogonek publishing company and renamed Proletarskoe
foto (Proletarian
photography) in 1932 and 1933. It appeared only once in two months
from 1934 onwards. The publication of the magazine was suspended
between 1942 and 1956 because of the War and the resultant postwar
economic situation.
In 1957 publication was restarted until 1991. The magazine in its
early days was famous for its participating artists/photographers as
El Lissitzky, Aleksandr Rodchenko, Vitalii Saikhet and many others.
