From 1905 to 1909 Rybnikov studied at the school of drawing and painting in Kharkov and from 1909 to 1911 in Rerberg's studio in Moscow. In 1919 he became organizer and supervisor of the restoration workshop at the State Tretiakov Gallery. He combined his work as a restorer with teaching in Moscow. He was author of scientific publications on restoration of oil paintings. He participated in the exhibitions of paintings such as by the Zhar-tsvet society or the AKhRR group.
