This Crimean Tatar story about a brave Princess in the curious Israelite kingdom of Karaines, was written by Marina Romanoff, a member of Russia’s ruling house. A year before her marriage to Prince Alexandre Golytsin she made a manuscript of the tale in red ink. 35 pages, rectos only were written, some on separate sheets mounted to the album’s pages. The text is adorned with small drawings made as head- and tail pieces on separate pieces of paper, though most were created in the same session as the text. |
