Svyatoslav Roerich, son of Nicholas Roerich, got the first drawing lessons from his father who often took him on archaeological tours of ancient Russian cities to study the history and culture of Russia. From 1916 to 1918, the Roerich family lived in Finland. In 1918, Svetoslav studied architecture at the London Academy and in 1920 at the Columbia University Mass. In 1923 he became head of the newly founded International Art Centre Corona Mundi what later became the Nicholas Roerich Museum in new York. After graduating in 1931 Svyatoslav left for India where he lived and worked in Tataguni, 20 km. outside of Bangalore. |
