Oskar Rabin, son of a Ukranian medical doctor and a Latvian mother, is one of the leading artists of the Lianosovo group. He studied at the studio of Evgenii Kropivnitskii and started his study at the Moscow Art Academy in 1946. In 1949 he was expelled because of Formalism. Between 1950 and 1957 he worked as a railway worker. In 1965 Rabin had an exhibition in London and he and his wife, the artist Kropivnitskaia, became under scrutiny of the state. The started asking exit visa which eventually was granted in 1974. Since the couple and their son Aleksandr, lived in Paris. In 1994 Aleksandr died in a travel accident and in 2008 Kropivnitskaia died.
