Polyakov graduated 1926 from the Saratov Art College where he had studied under N. Kupreianov, L. Bruni and P. Pavlinov. studied at the Saratov from 1906 till 1926. He started cooperating with the Molodaia Gvardia publishing house in Saratov and continued illustrating after het had moved to Kashira (Moscow) in 1931. In 1936 he moved to Moscow and designed woodcuts and illustrated also for the Detgiz publishers. During the war he designed posters and after the war he mainly worked as an illustrator for children's books.
