Pogedaieff studied from 1904 to 1911 at the school of the Odessa Cadet Corps. In 1913 he studied with a.o. A. Arkhipov and N. Kasatkin. Around 1916 he started his carrier as theatre designer and scenographer in Moscow. In October 1920 he emigrated over Besarabia (Chisinau) to Berlin where he worked as a designer for the Russisches Romantisches Theater of Romanov and Der Blaue Vogel of Juschny in Berlin and Vienna. In 1926 he moved to Paris where he a.o. worked for the Chauve Souris of Balieff. He lived and worked in Paris and in Menerbes, a village in the Luberon mountains, where he died and is buried in the local cemetery.
