Penson, born into a poor bookbinders family, studied at the Vilno Art school but was forced in 1914 to move to Turkestan. After the revolution he founded an art school in Kokand (Uzbekistan). After receiving in 1921, a photo camera as a prize for his teaching work he became a photographer and photo journalist who documented the economic and social transformation of Uzbekistan. His photographs were used in famous journals such as SSSR na stroike. |
