Nikolskii graduated from the Department of Biology of the Moscow State University. He also studied at the Vkhutemas under V.A. Vatagin. During the war he became acquainted with N. Zhukov worked at the Moscow Grekov Military Studio. He mainly worked as an illustrator for children's journals and books.
