Elisabeth Mnatskanian (Netzkowa) studied 1945-1947 philology at the Moscow university. In 195 she graduated from the Moscow State conservatory where she had studied piano and music theory. In the early 1940s she started writing and illustrating her own poetry. In 1975 she left the USSR and settled in Vienna where she worked at the department of Slavic Studies of the Vienna University.
