Gregoire Michonze was born as Geres Mikhonznik in Kichinov, capital of Besarabia, now capital of Moldova. He studied 1919-1921 at the Kichinev School of Art and 1918-1921 at the Academy of painting in Bucharest. In 1922 he emigrated over Constantinople and Marseille to Paris where he studied at the Ecole des beaux Arts and met with Max Ernst. In 1931 he moved to the south of France. During the second World War he volunteered in the French army, was capture and interned near Bremen. After the war he settled in Paris. |
