Merinoff studied at the Petersburg High School of Art. He served during the First World War as a pilot. In 1920 he settled in Paris and studied at the Paris School of Decorative Arts. Between 1940 and 1947 Merinoff lived in Lot et Garonne in the south of France. In 1947 he moved to New York where he lived and worked.
