Vera Matyukh's father fled to Berlin before the Revolution where he married her mother. After the revolution her parents returned to Russia and settled in Kharkov. There Vera studied at the Kharkov Art School under V. Ermilov. In 1933 the joined a group of young artists centered around the Experimental Graphic Studio. She lived and worked in Leningrad.
