Masterkova studied 1946 at the Surikov School of Art and 1947-1950 at the Regional School of Art in Mocow. She as closely associated with the non-conformist school of Lianozovo, where she met Nemukhin with whom she lived but never married. In 1975 she and her son emigrated to Paris.
