Likman studied from 1916 to 1918
at the Moscow Stroganov Institute and from 1918 to 1921 at the Moscow
Vkhutemas. In 1923 het started working as a scenographer at the Tomsk
theatre. In 1926 he moved to Novosibirsk where he worked as the artistic
director for the Krasnoarmeiskaia gazeta [Red Army Journal]. In 1933 he
started painting next to his work as an illustrator.
