Levitskii studied 1896-1899 at the St. Petersburg School of Drawing under Ilia repin and at the schools of Lev Dimitriev-Kavkazky and pincess Maria Tenisheva. In 1905 he started working as a book designer and illustrator. After the revolution he became dean of the Leningrad Vkhutemas.
