Portrait of emperor Nicholas II (1868-1918), his wife empress Alexandra Feodorovna (1872-1918) and their eldest daughter grand duchess Olga (1895-1918). Shortly before his coronation in 1896, Nicholas wrote in his diary for 3 May: 'At 2.15 went to be photographed by Levitsky's son, since the old man was unwell. He took all sorts of photographs: a group of three with our daughter, as a couple and on my own.' (Diaries of Nicholas II, Moscow 1991, p.142).
