Leonidov started working as a casual dock labourer before started studying Icon painting in Petrograd. In 1919 het started studying at the Tver Svomas and in 1921 at the Moscow Vkhutemas under A. Vesnin. He graduated in 1927 and worked for the Mossovet and at Moisei Ginzburg Studio.
