Kurkin studied from 1935 to 1940 at the Palekh Art School Under D. Butorin and N. Parilov. From 1945 to 1976 he worked for the Palekh Art Workshops. Next to his illustration works and works for lacquer boxes, he also designed stage droppings and monumental murals.
