In 1909 Kulagina joined the studios of Pevsner and Favorskii at the SVOMAS, where she met her husband Gustav Klucis. Together they studied at the VKhUTEMAS. In 1928 she became a member of the group Oktiabr. After the arrest (1938) of her husband she retreated from public life.
