Korsakoff  was the daughter of a Russian doctor who worked at the Russian embassy in Peking. During the Boxer revolt they took care of the wounded soldiers and received both an order from the Tsar for their work. In 1905 she graduate from the Munich Art School and married its leader Georg Broel in 1911. In 1919 she divorced Broel and married the pianist Gottfried Galston. In 1927 Galston was offered the position as a professor of music in St. Louis where the couple settled.
